Daniel Smith graduated with a B.T.E.C Diploma in Foundation Studies from Bourneville College of Art, Birmingham, England. Daniel was then accepted at Falmouth College of Art but decided to defer for a year and travelled around Australia and parts of Indonesia. Upon returning to the U.K, he became a Buddhist Monk, living in monasteries in the U.K and North East Thailand. In 2004, after five years as a monk, Daniel disrobed and continued his path as an artist. Since 2004, he has worked full time as a painter, exhibiting in many galleries in the U.K and Australia.
Dan migrated to Australia with his wife in 2010. In 2011, Dan was chosen as a finalist in the Metro Art Award and in 2013, he also earnt a place as a finalist in the prestigious Black Swan Portrait Prize as well as being chosen as a finalist in the 2013 Flanagan Prize. In 2016, Dan was a finalist once again in the Lester Prize and won for In recent years, Dan has worked as a Digital Illustrator with Sydney-based company, The Illustrators, creating book covers and artworks, illustrations for government agencies and private commissions. Dan is currently focusing on building a career as a Mural Artist as well as producing high end photo real paintings for renowned gallery, Linton and Kay.
Dan is now working as a professional Tattoo Artist at Johnny Two Thumb in Perth, Western Australia. He specialises in custom realism pieces and is utilising his painting and illustration skills to create bold and highly detailed tattoos for Perth's tattoo enthusiasts.
